Collecting Data

Meteorological network in Federation of B&H has been decreased significantly in comparison with period before the war (92-95). At present time this network consist of 11 synoptic and 6 climatological stations. Though, the coverage of teritory of Federation is acceptable regarding the WMO requirements for synoptic stations, but the expansion of climatological network is imperative.

Reports from synoptic stations are collected via PSTN every three hours, and only with some mountain stations the exchange of data is going via radio connection. Received data has been checked against internal consistency, and after that the subset of meteorological reports is being sent to the different levels of international exchange. Our Institute regulary fulfill it's obligations in this field. Our Centre sends about 88 synop reports every day, and once at the end of the each month, monthly CLIMAT report from three our stations.

Regarding reception of data from GTS, about 4000 SYNOP reports, 500 TEMP and around 200 ship reports are received every day in our Centre, and data are received from two regional Centers: Wiena and Ankara.

At the beginning of 2005 two satellite systems has been instolled in our Centre: Franch's RETIM 2000, and Norvey's MEOS. RETIM 2000 is used for reception of different products from i Meteo France, among others there are products from numerical models ARPEG, ALADIN and BRACKNELL. MEOS system is used for reception of HRIT and LRIT products from MSG (Meteosat Second Generation), and full access to this data has been granted from EUMETSAT.
