In a joint project of WMO and UNDP, supported financially
by the European Commission - Directorate for Enlargement
in the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute was held the
conference on 29 and 30 March 2011th, which this important
project completed. Project objectives are to strengthen
regional cooperation meteorological institute of Southeast
Europe in the field of disaster risk reduction.
The conference was attended by representatives of meteorological
services in the region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic
of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, FYROM, Republic
of Turkey), representatives from WMO (Dr. Maryam Golnaraghi
- Project Manager Disaster Risk Reduction, Ivan Čačić -
President of RA VI and the director of Croatian DHMZ, Dimitar
Ivanov - Chief of Regional Office for Europe, Department
for Development and Regional Cooperation), representatives
METEOALARM, ECMWF, the EUMETNET, UNDP and the European Commission.
Within project, the BiH weather services had the opportunity
to participate in important workshops in the area of drought
and floods, and training necessary for Bosnia and Herzegovina
in METEOALARM - European Network for the warning in cases
of extreme weather events. Also, Bosnia and Herzegovina
is in the process to access to the European Center for medium-term
prognosis EUMETNET and ECMWF (European Network of meteorological
institutions).
